Already on a Home Care Package? Here’s What the 2025 Changes Mean for You
If you’re currently receiving a Home Care Package (HCP), you may be wondering what will happen when the new Support at Home program starts on 1 July 2025.
Good news — there’s no need to worry. You won’t lose your care or funding. But some things will change in how your budget is managed and how services are delivered. Here’s what you need to know:
📌 No Reassessment Needed
If your Home Care Package was approved before 12 September 2024, you’ll automatically be placed into a Support at Home classification that aligns with your current package level. You don’t need to reapply or undergo a new assessment.
💰 Your Contribution Won’t Increase
The “no-worse-off” guarantee means your personal contribution (the amount you pay) under Support at Home will stay the same — or may even be lower than what you pay now.
🔄 Your Budget Will Change from Annual to Quarterly
Instead of receiving a yearly budget, you’ll get a quarterly budget allocation. This will make it easier to plan your care in smaller, manageable blocks of time and adjust services as your needs change.
💵 Unspent Funds Will Carry Over
Any unspent Home Care Package funds you have before 1 July 2025 will carry over to Support at Home in full.
From 1 July 2025 onward, new unspent funds will be capped at 10% of your quarterly budget or $1,000 — whichever is greater. This helps you avoid large unused balances and keeps your care active.
🧭 What You Should Do Now
- No action is needed if you’re already receiving care through an HCP.
- Make sure your care plan is still aligned with your needs and goals.
- Speak with our team if you’d like to review or update your services.
